Dr Mikel Susperregi – CEO

Mikel Susperregi holds a D.Phil in Astrophysics from the University of Oxford and an MSc in Quantum Physics from Imperial College London, as well as several years’ academic research and lecturing experience. He also has more than 10 years’ experience in investing in carbon markets, the renewable energy sector and climate change policy.

His career began in London as an academic at Queen Mary University of London developing early universe theoretical models, and subsequently he joined the Physics Commission think tank as Editor. His strong grasp of financial instruments and applied mathematics enabled him to advise private clients in the renewables energy sector, M&A, and property finance. He sits in the board of directors of several companies and is the trustee of a number of charities.

In 2008 he founded Carbonica as a carbon trading company and operated its carbon trading desk for a number of years, until in 2012, following a number of investments in forestry and in the clean energy sector, the company branched out into asset management, specializing in low-carbon investment opportunities. Mikel Susperregi has lead the investment strategy of the company all these years and during 2016-2017 he lived in Japan where he advised Japanese corporations on investment strategy in the UK following Brexit.
